Top class impedance measurement and signal generation - All in one device.

SIGGI combines all functions required for objectively verifying any device for acquisition, amplification and processing of electrophysiological signals (EEG, ECG, EMG, etc.) in
one handy and easy to operate instrument.

SIGGI reliably and quickly ensures the validity
and quality of all your equipment and data.

SIGGI is a must for any electrophysiological laboratory or medical technology department.

OPERATION

All functions of SIGGI advanced and SIGGI basic can be reached intuitively via the functions menu and the four navigation keys.
The - key is used for Power On and for the selection of functions or parameters. If pressed several times successively, the last used function is reached. - The three cursor keys are used for navigation in the functions menu shown below.

CONNECTORS

Signals

Signal generator ground is connected to output A. Connect this output to the reference input of your device, e.g. of your EEG amplifier, and shortcut it with Gnd. The generated test signal is output to connector C. Connect this lead to any desired channel of your equipment. Connector B delivers the generated signal at half the original signal amplitude found at connector C.

Trigger

At the start of every signal period, a TTL trigger signal of half period duration is output to the trigger connector. Connect the trigger output with the corresponding input of your device (e.g. pins 1 and 14 on the PC-card trigger input of the BrainAmp®, pins 8 and 25 on the trigger input connector of the SynAmp®). You may have to change trigger polarity in the software setup.

Impedance

Impedance is measured between Impedance-In und Impedance-Out. Connect your electrode pair to these two connectors.

Note: While it is possible to use rectangle signals for impedance measurement with SIGGI, we do not recommend this, as this measurement procedure is mathematically undefined.

SOFTWARE

SIGGI advanced comes with the Windows™ program SIGGI.EXE, which can be used to display and change any menu parameter available in SIGGI advanced directly on your PC.

Additionally, you can use SIGGI.EXE to transfer any test signal you desire into the signal memory of SIGGI advanced, which can then be used for testing your equipment. Of course, the use of the built in sine, rectangle and DC signals for equipment tests is not affected by a loaded user signal. - SIGGI.EXE can read the most common data arrangements in ASCII format. - Examples can be found in the folder \EXAMPLES.

Installation:
Start the installation program from the supplied 3,5" disc by clicking Run in the Start menu. Enter A:\Setup and confirm your entry with OK. - The configuration program runs under Windows 95, 98, ME, NT and Windows 2000. After installation you can edit the desired parameters by connecting the COM port of your PC and SIGGI advanced with the serial communications cable, switching SIGGI advanced on and starting the data transmission from within SIGGI.EXE.
If your PC has several COM ports you have to specify the port to use in the menu Configuration - COM port of SIGGI.EXE before you can use the program to transfer/edit your configuration.

Deinstallation:
Should you ever need to deinstall SIGGI.EXE, you can easily do this with the help of the system utility Software supplied with Windows. - Simply choose Settings - System properties - Software from the Windows Start menu, select SIGGI and confirm your choice..

POWER SUPPLY

SIGGI is powered by rechargable batteries. Typical operating time is approximately 10 hours with a recharging time of about 14 hours. - After six minutes of operation without a key press SIGGI switches off automatically.

Red diode indicates low or empty batteries.
Green diode indicates battery charge operation.

Subject and patient safety

In order to connect the battery charger or the serial cable used for communication with the PC, the mechanical slider has to be dislocated. This effectively blocks the signal and impedance outputs and thus blocks operation of the device.

This reliably prevents a subject or patient from accidently being connected to the mains power and suffering injuries in case of an unexpected failure of the mains adapter or of the computer connected to SIGGI.

DC-Signal
Output of a direct current signal with adjustable voltage level in the range from -600 to 600 µV.

Common mode rejection test
The common mode rejection of your amplifier can be tested by simultaneously injecting the same signal into the signal reference and all data channels. With correctly functioning common mode rejection, the amplifier will output no measurable signal. (Explicit connection directions to follow).

User defined signal
The internal memory of SIGGI advanced can be loaded with a user defined signal of 10 seconds duration at a sample rate of 1024 Hz. This data signal can be output with or without smoothing by the built in lowpass data filter.

Trigger output
With the start of each signal period of a sine, square wave or user defined signal from the internal memory, a 5V-TTL signal of half period duration is sent to the trigger output jack.

Internal resistance
Internal resistance of the device is 20 . By attaching the blue cable supplied with SIGGI to output A the internal resistance is increased to 51 k.

Impedance Measurement Calibration
SIGGI is factory calibrated before delivery. Recalibration of the device can be selected from the menu. However, this should only be necessary after repairs of the instrument.

SIGGI
advanced contains all of the parameters and functions listed above.
SIGGI basic is delivered by default with the bold parameters shown above.
You can also order SIGGI basic-X with your own specific parameter combinations. Please use ordering help
